New Glory Devotional: THE NAME OF JESUS 1 – Saturday, October 20, 2012

By Pastor Ayo Agbelusi

Memorise: “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:” (Philippians 2:9).

Read: Phil.2:9-11

Names are not just ordinary. The name you bear has a lot to do with the life you live and the destiny you will ultimately fulfil. There’s a level of power backing attached to every name on earth and there’s a spirit behind every personal or family name. That’s why you can’t afford to claim a name that will affect your destiny negatively. Some names command respect and honour while some produce shame and disgrace. You can decide to agree to the meaning of the name you bear or seek a change spiritually and physically. In 1Chronicles 4:9-10, Jabez discovered there was evil attached to his name and he sought God in violent and heartfelt prayers for instant change that culminated in his entire deliverance and total liberation from the shackles of poverty and sorrow.

The greatest name ever given in heaven and on earth is the name JESUS. That’s the only name that answers to every question of man on earth.

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).

The only name available for your total deliverance from sins and that grants you access to see God.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6).

That’s our Lord Jesus. He’s enough solution to all your age-long family problems and evil traits.

This name of the Lord is a strong tower. Once you enter the name of Jesus, you can be sure your own names will come under subjection to His so that your portion on the earth will be delivered. “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;” (Philippians 2:10).

What name are you called? What is the glory attached to the name you bear? I may not know the glory or shame attached to what you are called, but I have good news for you, the name of Jesus is enough solution to the spirit behind that name and all problems following you like Jabez. Are you called sick? There’s healing power in His name. Maybe they call you barren, Jesus gives children freely because they are His heritage. Are you called poor? He became poor that you through His poverty might be rich! Is there a family curse attached to that name? It’s possible you are named after an idol in your family or after a wicked grandfather who succeeded in using the virtues of every single child born to that family for rituals. The name of the Lord will cause them to bow out. Are you operating under a family curse? I have a good news for you: Gal.3:13 says “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”

At every point in your life, you can rely on the potency and Almighty effect of the name of Jesus for your desired turn around. It will work for you as you begin to call Him for a transformation of your name from failure to success.

Action:

Don’t accept what God is not calling you. Seek the Lord for the revelation of His glory over your life and eternal transformation of the negative effect of your names.
