Open Heavens Devotional: IS GOD’S PRESENCE VISIBLE? – Thursday, February 23, 2012

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Memorise: Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13

Read: Acts 4:12-14

God’s presence is perceivable. Its effect can be so strong that people around you will notice it. The presence of God with Joseph was noticed by his master (Genesis 39:3). When God is with you, people will know. You cannot feign God’s presence for long. When Samson lost the presence of God and was awakened from sleep, he shook himself and did his usual exercises and gymnastics, yet God was nowhere to be found (Judges 16:19-20). God is not in the superficial activities. It is either He is with you or He is not. And if you claim He is with you, why is it that those around you cannot notice Him in your life? Whatever is covering God’s presence in your life shall be consumed by fire. When people know that God is with you, they will be very careful about what they do to you or with you.

The effect of God’s presence was also perceivable in the life of Peter and John after a miracle took place in the early church. A popular lame man of over 40 years was healed. This news was all over town and being grieved by it, the religious leaders of their day arrested Peter and John. As they cross-examined them, they realised they could not speak Queen’s English. They were uneducated in the things of men but they also realised that they had been schooled by Jesus. At this time, the Lord had ascended, yet, the unbelieving temple leaders could testify that they had been with Jesus. In other words, they were carriers of His presence. You can be a carrier of His presence irrespective of your academic, social or financial status. Can it be said by people around that you had been with Jesus? When last did you tarry in His presence for hours, days weeks or months?

Father, from today, let it be visible that I have been with you. Make me a carrier of Your uncommon presence.

Open Heavens Devotional: BENEFITS OF HIS PRESENCE – Thursday, February 2, 2012

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Memorise: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Read: Matthew 11:28-30

Moses was ready to reject any promotion, progress or prosperity that was not backed up by God’s presence. Do everything you need to do and pay every price you need to pay for God to be with and remain with you. There are a whole lot of benefits from His presence.

And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, if thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. Exodus 33:14-15

Also, in Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus promises rest to those who come to Him. This rest is an all-encompassing rest. Are you burdened with a particular care? Is it turning your hairs grey before the time? What you need is the divine presence, for there is rest for you in God’s presence. If God is with you, it will show in the level of rest you enjoy. You cannot have Him with you and you remain troubled. Do you need true rest in every area of your life and ministry? Ask for God’s presence as never before.

Another benefit of God’s presence is that it is a mark of God’s favour (Exodus 33:16). Is God with you? Oh how favoured you are! In addition, God’s presence with you is a mark of Heaven’s recognition. In Exodus 33:17, God told Moses: “I know you by name”. Every Born-again Christian ought to enjoy this level of intimacy with God, for Paul writing to the church at Galatia said:

But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Galatians 4:9

Does God address you by name? Another benefit is that, it is those that carry God’s presence that God will show His glory. If God is with you, be prepared to see what eyes have not seen. Moses saw the glory of God and you too can. Ask for His ever-abiding, tangible presence from today.

In every area I am troubled or disturbed, Father, give me rest today through Your presence.

Bible in One year: Genesis 30-32

Open Heavens Devotional: HIS PRESENCE – Thursday, January 26, 2012

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Memorise: And he said unto him, if thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. Exodus 33:15

Read: Exodus 33:13-16

If you must prosper, you cannot ignore having God’s presence. The presence of God brings prosperity like nothing else. Joseph prospered because of God’s presence (Genesis 39:2), and so did all the saints before us. Even the Lord Jesus Christ needed God’s presence in order to succeed in life and ministry (Acts 10:38). Beloved, you cannot do without God’s presence. Do you really want to prosper in life and ministry? Then what you need more than anything else is God’s presence in your life. When you are born again, you have the presence of God inside of you in some measure. But as you cultivate His friendship, relate with Him daily, praise and worship Him, feed on His Word and obey Him, that presence grows. You need the presence of God to deal with enemies and every situation or challenge that comes your way. The problems you can solve will be determined by the amount of God’s presence upon you. What level of God’s presence are you carrying?

One person who knew that the value of God’s presence was Moses. As long as God was with him: he could stretch his hands over the Red Sea and God would put a highway in the sea, he could smite the nation of Egypt with plagues of judgement, he could cause his rod to swallow the magic wands of the sorcerers of Egypt. In today’s reading, we see Moses frantically asking for God’s presence. Never seek a position that God has not given to you because God will not honour what He has not commanded with His presence. If you dethrone others so that you can take their place, you have just dug a pit for yourself. God’s presence cannot go with you there. Lobbying for positions may deliver your desire, but without God. Moses was not ready to go up without the assurance of divine presence. When God’s presence goes with you, it means you are favoured of God. Is God with you in all you do? Or do you do things with your own solo effort?

Father, anything that will take Your presence away from me, take it out of my life.
