New Glory Devotional: SAY NO TO INGRATITUDE – Tuesday, September 25, 2012

By Pastor Ayo Agbelusi

Memorise: “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1).

Read: Psalm 100: 1-5

The possibility of gratitude in all situations of life has been much talked about. It’s evident that not everybody can choose thanksgiving when the ships are down. Thanksgiving is one great quality in Solomon that made him standout in history and among every other king on the earth. Until your heart is correctly positioned, you will never see how wonderfully the Lord has blessed and what you stand to enjoy through gratitude.

God awaits true worshipers. He seeks those who will be grateful for all they see, hear and experience. He does not expect thanksgiving only when it appear that all needs are met.

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. ” (John 4:23).

Beloved this is the hour. The very present time is the best for worship, thanksgiving and jubilation! If God hasn’t wrought His greatness in and through us, the present situations of the world would have swallowed us up. But you are preserved. You are not redeemed at such a time like this for mere frivolity! God specially and specifically determined that you will see the light of the day. I know you have been blinded and greatly hindered from gratitude all because it appears you haven’t receive answers to all your requests. But beloved, there is a hope of a better tomorrow. God is thinking good thought about you. A thought of peace and success to give you your desired miracle. Jer.11:29 . Hope is a great attribute that qualifies you for the supernatural. Your future is bright, colourful and glorious. That’s what the Bible says. “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” (Romans 5:5).

A grateful heart will not murmur at the little received. Thousands of the children of israel were wasted in the wilderness because they cheaply forgot that the same God who killed all the first born of Egypt, parted the red sea and drown the host of Pharaoh’s army is more than able to give them the promised land. Ingratitude will do nothing but block your access to the next miracle. David continued victoriously throughout his lifetime because he has a heart for thanksgiving.

The little you have received is enough proof that the rest will be supplied. Say no to ingratitude and appreciate God for what he will do. Remember, he’s not a man that he should lie or son of man that he should repent of his words. Count your blessings and name them one by one. You will be greatly encouraged that the Lord is good and He’s able to do exceeding abundantly above all you could ever ask or think.

Action Point:

if you crave higher altitude in life and destiny, make gratitude your daily lifestyle. Dedicate a whole day to appreciate God for his great works over your life.

New Glory Devotional: DON’T GO BACK TO FAILURE – Monday, September 24, 2012

By Pastor Ayo Agbelusi

Memorise: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1 John 2:16).

Read: John 21: 1-7

There’s no benefit in backsliding. The simple effect of backsliding is reproach and failure. It’s simple channel for the devil to revenge and drag a soul to hell eternally. “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62). What qualifies you for all you are enjoying at the moment is grace but backsliding can erode all that if care is not taken! Watch your ways!

Where we read in John 21: 1-7, the failure which was once aborted by our Lord Jesus Christ returned to the life of Peter because he considered going back to fishing more profitable than the calling and assignment of heaven. Maybe you heart is equally drifting back or your old friends are beckoning on you. It’s possible you just relocated to another city and you have started living freely without caution. Be careful not to get your soul entangled again to failure and immoral living.

In Luke 5: 5, Peter toiled all night but failed professionally until Jesus came to the scene. It was the miracle of Jesus that translated him from ordinary fisherman to a fisher of men! What a glorious development and promotion! But look at it, after the death of Jesus, he was already on his way back to his former vomit. It’s always very painful to see believers returning to their former lives after they have enjoyed the works and benefits of grace.

Beloved, your yesterday is too small compared to what the future holds for you. Why should you be thinking of returning to your vomit? You have promised to serve the Lord with all your spirit, soul and body. I encourage you to continue fervently in the Lord without looking back. Note this, the enemy of your soul – satan and his demonic angels will never give up on you. That’s why you shouldn’t give up on God!

What you will gain in backsliding is the lost of the present glory and a return to your former failures. Your old friends can never be substitutes to grace and the works of the Holy Spirit. You will be doing yourself more harm by returning to same group of drunkards and fornicators who initially led you into destruction. Thank God for the shed blood of Jesus. Now you are made fat and flourishing. It’s just too late to consider immorality as enjoyment and iniquities as pleasures!

2Pet.2:21 says: “For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” If backsliding is a choice, then failure and shame will be inevitable. Be careful of the life you lead.

Let it not be said that your soul is beginning to crave those former lifestyles and worldly affairs. Keep moving on, don’t get yourself entangled again with sins and worldly lusts. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1 John 2:16).

Peter failed again at backsliding. He toiled in futility with no result until Jesus delivered him. Maybe you have started to fail again as a result of looking back. The wife of Lot couldn’t see the light of another day because she looked back. You can return to holy living, evangelism, prayers and the study of the word of the Lord. The Lord will keep you from falling and make His face to shine upon you.

Prayer:

Father, please keep my soul from backsliding and preserve me till second appearing of Your Son – Jesus

New Glory Devotional: Do You Truly Believe? Saturday, September 22, 2012

By Pastor Ayo Agbelusi

Memorise: “Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? ” (John 11:40).

Read: John 11: 40-45

Great number of the children of Israel couldn’t get to the promise land because their hearts melted in the wilderness through unbelieve. No man can enjoy the promises of God without believing that His words are true.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6).

Your knowledge of the word of God compels what you believe. Until there’s a knowing there can never be a believing. It will be difficult for you to believe God’s word for your desired turn around if you are far from God himself. The more you study His words the better your believe system becomes. You can only discover His promises for your destiny when you look through the Word of life daily.

Mary and Martha sent for Jesus because they know He’s able to deliver their brother from that horrible pit of death! What exactly do you believe about the God you serve? Are you merely confessing the word or you are full of assurance of faith that what you confess will certainly come pass? What is that situation in your family, marriage and business that makes you see impossibility instead of victory? Are you seeing failure in place of success? Hear this: “Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? ” (John 11:40). Here Jesus was referring to Himself as the resurrection and life. You can’t believe in the resurrection and life and still be thinking of untimely death.

For a reader of this devotional, it’s your turn to see the glory of God! Your season of undeniable result is here. What is God asking from you? Just Believe! Until you believe, you cannot receive from Him. Take away that doubt, put off those negative thoughts of impossibility, reject the stories of failure and uncertainties that flows all around you. This is your season of the miraculous and your testimonies shall humble your mockers.

“And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:45). What God has said is settled. God will not change his mind about blessing you. His words says you are healed. He promised you will not lack you mate, he announced to hell and death that you shall never be barren. All He’s asking you to do is to receive this words with faith and take possession of His purpose for your life. He will surely perform His word concerning you and your family and it shall be well with you.

Prayer:

Father, give me the grace to believe You totally and never to accept the dictates of the devil over the issues of my destiny.

Open Heavens Devotional: CHANGE – Wednesday, August 1, 2012

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Memorise: And as a vesture shalt fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. Hebrews 1:12

Read: Acts 19:1-7

The only constant thing in life is change. God’s covenant moved from the Old Testament to the New. That was a profound change that shaped the world. When Jesus came, the Old Testament was in force. He introduced the New Testament during his ministry on earth, giving men a glimpse of the change to come and reorienting their understanding. After His death, burial and resurrection, the New Testament in His blood was established. Those who fail to go with change end up blaming themselves. They will be cut off from so many benefits. For instance, during the days of the early church, when Paul travelled to Ephesus, he met some disciples who were baptised  by John the Baptist. Based on what they knew, they were still expecting the Messiah who John had come to usher in. Unknown to these, the Messiah had come, affected their world and gone. One would wonder where these disciples were when great multitudes thronged the meetings organised by the Lord. However, they were receptive to change based on the new information they heard, so they were baptised again as commanded by the Lord, and they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

We need to recognize that God is at the centre of several changes all over the world because He rules in the affairs of men. Daniel 2:21 says He changes times and season to suit His purpose. But while He effects change, He does not change. He is the same (Hebrew 1:10-22). He introduces changes so as to make room for a difference. When a piece of white cloth is dyed and turns grey, it is said that it has changed colour. Change can also mean replacement, for instance when you change the tyres of your car. Change gives room for variety, yet not all changes are desirable. When you change from good to bad, that is a negative change and is undesirable. Equally bad is moving from success to failure. God expects positive change from you. Change from being a bench warmer in church to an active worker or minister. There are certain areas in your life that require change. Some things need to be dropped. You would also need to acquire healthy habits and behavioural patterns. Change now!

KEY POINT:

Life is all about change. If you do not adapt to change, you might be rendered irrelevant.
