New Glory Devotional: FOR SUCH A TIME LIKE THIS – Sunday, October 14, 2012

By Pastor Ayo Agbelusi

Memorise: “For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).

Read: Esther 4:14-16

Another person whose fame rose unstoppably in the Bible was Joseph. God’s provision for him was unique and timely. Thank God Joseph wasted no time in realising that his affluence and position was directly linked to the deliverance of his brethren and the nation of Israel. It’s important you find out why God blessed you. God is not a waster of resources. He gives seed to the sower and mere bread to consumers. If you are a sower, you will be a blessing but consumers have nothing to offer. God will only qualify you for higher heights if there’s a provision in your heart to bless and not to oppress. Many of the so-called rich in our society today are mere oppressors and are never channels of blessing to their people. I pray that God will not regret blessing you in Jesus mighty name.

The position of parents in the successful development of a child can never be over emphasised. Thank God for Mordecai. He showed up as a unique uncle to bring Esther to remembrance of the reason why God positioned her in the palace. It was for such a time when the people of God would require a saviour and urgent deliverer. Do you realise that God is not just promoting and blessing you on that job for nothing? It’s impossible for you to witness untold increase in that business without a divine mandate. Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking that the gifts and talents you have are for personal use and profit. No brother, all these blessings are there for a time when they will be needed in His kingdom.

…and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).

You need someone to talk to you. Our politicians and leaders need to be corrected on what to do with their titles and offices. As a minister in God’s vineyard, you need to talk to yourself. What is the value you have added since you gained that position and authority? Who has benefited from the grace of God upon your life? Are you merely watching and waiting? Delay is dangerous. If you fail continually to appropriate the purpose of the blessings of God upon your life, you will loose them to other profitable servants whom the Lord has prepared.

You need to decide quickly like Esther did.

“Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:16).

You must be ready to sacrifice what you have and all you’ve earned. This is the right time to support the work of the Lord. Now is the time to make yourself available for the projects of God towards the salvation of men. Your affluence should translate to kingdom influence. You are created and sent to that region for such a time like this. God is expecting you to defend the cause of the poor, the widows and orphans. What are you still waiting for?

“For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” (Romans 8:19).

You can start now! You have waited too long. You have wasted this grace enough. Why should God be sad or have regrets over his blessing upon your life. Look inward and respond to your Maker concerning the purpose why He created you. May you not fail God and humanity in Jesus mighty name.

ACTION POINT:

Examine your life. What is the reason why God has created me with so many talents and blessings? It’s definitely for such a time as this.

Open Heavens Devotional: LIKE JESUS – Saturday, September 1, 2012

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Memorise: Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 1 John 3:7

Read: 1 John 3:1-10

The call to salvation is a call to holiness. After you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour, it does not end there; the journey to Heaven has only just begun. Before you were saved, you manifested the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). But now that you have encountered Jesus Christ at salvation, the fruit of the Spirit is expected from you (Galatians 5:22-23). Every attempt at righteousness before your salvation was equal to self-righteousness which is as filthy rags to God (Isaiah 64:6); hence, Paul says his self-righteousness no longer counts but the righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:9). God has not only saved us and given us the gift of righteousness, He also expects us to live a life in agreement with His standard. Today, some people think that it is just enough to be born again and that nothing else is required. No! It is not enough! The truth is your new birth gives you the platform on which to build on, having secured God’s righteousness through your faith in Christ Jesus.

We are called to be like our Saviour Jesus Christ. In 1 John 2:1, Jesus is called the righteous, and verse 29 says:

If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

This means that the fruit of righteousness that you bear will be used to determine whether you are born of God or not. 1 John 3:7 says:

Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

God is not saying you should be holier than Jesus. Even Jesus says it is enough for a servant to be like his master (Luke 6:40). If God expected works of righteousness from Jesus, He expects the same from you. If you look at the letters the Lord wrote to the churches in Revelation 2 and 3, you will notice that He kept repeating that those who will qualify for those wonderful rewards are only the believers who overcome as He also overcame. In every point Jesus overcame, you too should, because He is our standard. Every act of righteousness He manifested, you too should. You must live a life that manifests the victory Christ has given you over the flesh, Satan and the world. You must allow Him to live His righteous life through you. Are you daily living a life of righteousness?

KEY POINT:

Jesus is God’s unchangeable standard for man. Be like Him in everything including righteous living.

Open Heavens Devotional: BECOMING LIKE HIM – Sunday, January 15, 2012

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

Memorise: But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18

Read: 2 Corinthians 3:13-18

The company you keep influences your life. You gradually take the form, character, traits, likes, dislikes, habits and nature of those you associate with. This could have a negative or positive impact on your life. If you move with the wrong crowd, you will become like them. If you are a close associate of a thief, no matter how much you hate stealing, sooner or later, you will start making excuses for the thief or even join the fellow to steal. Little wonder 1 Corinthians 15:33 says:

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Do you know that, just as it is easier for someone downhill to pull down somebody from uphill so it is easier for somebody with loose morals to negatively affect someone with good morals? This is why you must keep unsaved friends at some distance – to enable you reach out to them, but safe enough to keep you from falling prey to the sins that have enslaved them. This year, you must separate from anything that can severe your relationship with Christ.

On the positive side however, you can become more like Jesus if only you can find time to be with Him. Yes, you can become like the Lord through association.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18

Stay in His presence. Make sure you attend regular meetings with God and His people. At home, find time to be in His presence with your family, feasting on His Word, praising and worshipping Him. Do everything you can to increase the number of times you come into His presence and you will see yourself taking on His nature, putting on the Lord Jesus. This will make situations, circumstances, friends and foes to respond positively to you. Some people cannot even read a chapter of the Bible for a day; they are only robbing themselves of His glory. Do you know that if you read 40 chapters a day, you can finish the whole Bible in one month? You should read or listen to several chapters each day and meditate on some of the passages and you will gradually become like Him.

ACTION POINT:

If you don’t want to be like the person you are moving with, separate from that fellow today.

Open Heavens Devotional: COMMITTED LIKE PAUL? Tuesday 7 June 2011

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 21 :13).

READ: Acts 21 :8-14

As a bona fide friend, one way of standing by Jesus Christ is to stand by His followers. In the judgement of the nations at Christ’s second advent, the Lord says He would command the sheep nations at His right hand, saying “Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matt. 25:40). If you want to stand by Jesus, look for the less privileged believers to assist. Support them with your substance. Make a difference in their lives. Some people look for the opportunity to assist wealthy believers, probably because they can easily get help from them in return. That is not standing by Christ! Go and help those who cannot help you. Bless those who cannot bless you. Let them testify that their lives became better because you allowed God to use you. Some teenagers require assistance in enrolling for examinations but there is nobody to help. That is why you are there. That is why God gave you surplus so that they can be assisted (Gal. 6 :9-10).

In addition, standing by Christ is attaining the height of commitment to the Kingdom of God, which means, to get to the point of dying for Him. Many people can confess their love for Christ but when it comes to the point of dying for Him, they will simply retreat into their shells. In Acts 21 :11-14 , when it was revealed that Paul was going to be jailed in Jerusalem, the brethren at Caesarea mounted pressure on him not to go there. But what did he say? Verse 13 says, “Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus”. As a missionary, your level of commitment is revealed by the countries, cities and communities you are prepared to go to. Some people always ‘ hear’ God asking them to go to developed countries. They never hear God asking them to go to Muslim countries or war- torn nations. But I should think that, as a missionary, you are totally sold out to the Lord. Do you love Jesus to the point of going to a war zone for the sake of the Gospel? The one who is committed to Jesus is not after comfort. If your commitment to Christ has not reached the point where you see death as a gain (like Paul did in Philippians 1 :20-21) , your claim to having Christ as your friend is questionable.

ACTION POINT: Your level of commitment determines the extent God can use you. Pray for a heart of total commitment.
