The James Hope College (JHC) has announced the acquisition of the American International School Lagos (AISL) Lekki Campus facility to establish James Hope College in Lagos. This was disclosed at the signing ceremony held yesterday at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event had the Governor of Lagos, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the United States Ambassador ably represented by Carol Cox, the Chairman of AISL Board, Ali Safieddine and other prominent persons in attendance.
While giving his speech at the event, the Founder/Chairman of James Hope College, Mr. Jim Ovia stated that the College would continue to offer full scholarship based on merit, to 40% of all the students that would be admitted into the school. Read more
The Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has again urged residents to imbibe the culture of waste sorting at source by dropping all recyclable items in one bag and other waste items in another. This comes on the heels of the recently launched Blue Box Program of the state government.
He spoke at Orile bus stop during a road show organized by LAWMA along Lagos Badagry Expressway, to create awareness among residents and to distribute waste bags to them.
According to him, the Authority embarked on the massive sensitization program, to draw the attention of residents in the area to the need for proper sanitation and cleaner surroundings.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday led an All Male Walk against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), vowing that his administration would leave no stone unturned to ensure that all perpetrators of such crimes are made to face the wrath of the law.
The walk, which proceeded from Ikeja under Bridge through Awolowo Way to Lagos House in Alausa, witnessed the participation of dignitaries from all walks of life, including members of the State Executive Council, members of the State House of Assembly, key government functionaries, entertainers, youths, artisans, workers, among others.
Addressing participants at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Ambode, decked in a black T-shirt and armed with a placard with the inscription ‘Stop Rape, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse’, said it was time for men to stand up and take the bull by the horn in tackling the menace of SGBV in the society, as recent research has shown that women are more prone to being victims of these crimes. …Says Days Of Impunity Is Over Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday read the riot act to commercial motorcycle operators popularly called Okada riders, commercial buses and street hawkers, saying that the state government will no longer tolerate their nefarious activities on the streets and highways which has caused untold hardship for the people of the state in recent times.
Addressing Government House Correspondents shortly after an emergency Security Council Meeting which he chaired, Governor Ambode said that it had become evident that traffic crimes and robbery are mostly as a result of the menace of Okada riders and street hawkers, while recalcitrant commercial buses have become lawless and reckless on the road.
He said the Council made far reaching decisions at the meeting in line with the commitment of his administration to ensure security of lives and property as well as the enforcing of the Rule of Law.
The Governor said that the government will not allow a few notorious elements to cause a breakdown in law and order and upset the peace that the state has enjoyed over the years.
To this end, he said he has directed the full enforcement of the Lagos Road Traffic Laws, especially as it concerns the restriction of okada and tricycle operations.
He reminded that Schedule II of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law 2012 restricts Okada, tricycle (Keke Marwa), carts and wheel barrows on some routes including Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Oworonshoki-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Third Mainland Bridge.
Others routes include Eti-Osa/Lekki –Epe Expressway, Lagos –Badagry Expressway, Funsho Williams Avenue, Agege Motor Road and Eti-Osa/Lekki Coastal Road. Read more

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday swore in the newly appointed Commissioners and Special Advisers, with a charge on them to work round the clock and ensure that the state fulfils its potentials.
Speaking at the well-attended ceremony held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Governor Ambode reminded the new appointees that their primary allegiance is to the people of the state, irrespective of creed and colour urging them to dedicate themselves to the service of the state.
The Governor said that the state is currently experiencing rapid urbanization and thus requires hard thinking solutions to develop befitting infrastructure to cater for the increasing population.

…Fact Finding Committee Submits Report To Ambode Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday redeemed his promise to assist victims of recent tanker fire explosions in Iyana-Ipaja and Idimu Areas of the State with the distribution of cheques to 243 victims enumerated by the State government.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluranti Adebule at the cheque distribution event held at the Igando Rehabilitation Centre, Igando, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the government’s widow’s mite and return home to rehabilitate themselves as much they could.
“We know that what government has given is not enough but with the belief that you are going to put it to judicious use, it would go a long way to help out. Please stay peaceful and remain focused”.

In the wake of reported cases of the resurgence of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in some neigbouring West African countries like Liberia and Sierra Leone, Lagos State Government has again reiterated the need for members of the general public to ensure and maintain adequate personal and environmental hygiene at all times as part of precautionary measures to prevent the recurrence of the disease in the State and the country at large.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Modele Osunkiyesi gave the advice in her office at Alausa, Ikeja while outlining strategies put in place by the State Government to prevent the diseases from recurring in the State after it has certified free of Ebola on the 20th of October 2014 by the World Health Organization.
She stated that Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, is maintaining surveillance through Port Health Services and community surveillance activities in all local government areas.
While noting that that the prevention of Ebola remains a shared responsibility by all citizens, Osunkiyesi stated that although, there has not been any reported case of EVD in the State or the Country, but there is need for residents to take responsibility for their health.
She urged residents to observe the highest possible standards of personal and environmental hygiene through regular washing of hands with soap and running water; avoid close contact with people who are sick; ensure that objects used by the sick are decontaminated and properly disposed and avoid touching or washing of dead bodies if not trained to do so. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday met with Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) officers, stating that Lagos would be a chaotic city without LASTMA officials.
The Governor who spoke at a meeting with officials of the agencies at Lagos House, Ikeja said henceforth, the three agencies were going to be the new face of Lagos, adding that he would get the commendations for whatever they do right and the blame for their misdeeds.
“Just visualize that there is no LASTMA on the road. Lagos would more chaotic. I appeal strongly for your cooperation and support. As little as you may think your work is, you are going to be the new face of this government”.
