Memorise: “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” (James 3:2).
Read: James 3:1-12
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21).
Your tongue, though little, is a strong member of your body that you must not use carelessly. If you live carelessly with your tongue, you will in no time live a careless life on the earth. The tongue is a major control of the body. If your body is under total control, you can be sure a glorious life awaits you here on earth.
Many have been destroyed due to the misuse of their tongues. Idle words are dangerous. They have a direct negative impact on the life you live. You can’t make wrongful negative confessions about your situation and your life and expect positive results afterwards. What you think is what you’ll say and what you say has every right to stay. “Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:” (Numbers 14:28).
Your tongue is so powerful. It reveals your personality and depth. Your words are the yardstick by which your wisdom and your level of spiritually are measured. It’s better to remain silent than to bring yourself low due to the wrong use of words. Your tongue will not only build or destroy your life, it also has the same effect on the lives of the people you come in contact with. You can make a glorious destiny through the correct use of your tongue and you can also destroy an enviable destiny when you talk loosely about people and things you know nothing about. You are either building or destroying destinies by the way you use your tongue.
“Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” (James 3:10).
We have seen many born again Christians of long-standing whose tongues yet defile. How can you confess Jesus genuinely and your words not prove you have been with the Lord. The fruits of the lips of so many Christians are worse than that of some unbelievers. Foul words, unholy jesting, crazy jokes, dirty language and even cursing are some fruits we see in out midst. But hear the word of the Lord to you concerning this: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29).
What are you offering God and man from your lips? “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.” (Hebrews 13:15). Don’t deceive yourself, you know where you belong as far as the use of the tongue is concerned. If that member of your body is not under control, if God is not continually blessed and if the people around you cannot testify of the good words from your lips, then you need to check yourself and make all necessary adjustments.
Please help me to control my whole body and life through the right use of my tongue.
