The Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday said it arrested five suspected informants to kidnappers terrorising communities in Abaji Area Council and environs.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the command, Mr Bala Ciroma, disclosed this during a news conference in Abuja.
He said that the five suspects had made useful information to the police to facilitate the arrest of their cohorts.
The commissioner said the arrest of the five suspects was in line with the commitment of the command to tackle cases of kidnapping in the area.
In a related development, Ciroma said that police operatives from the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested six members of a notorious robbery gang.
He said members of the gang who specialized in transferring money through bank accounts linked to their victims’ SIM cards were arrested in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Ciroma said that the bank accounts used as destination accounts where proceeds of the crime were lodged were bank accounts created by the syndicates for unsuspecting persons whose SIM cards were picked from the streets. Read more

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has envisaged prospects of thunderstorms and rains over Northern and Central cities with moderate rains over Southern cities for Thursday.
NiMet’s weather outlook on Wednesday in Abuja, forecast rains over northwest and thunderstorms over northeast of northern states in the morning hours.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents to properly dispose of their domestic wastes during and after the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Assistant Director, Public Affairs of LAWMA, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, in a statement, disclosed that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure that the celebration was observed in a filth-free environment, as waste evacuators have been mandated to work round the clock to clean up the city.
The statement noted LAWMA’s resolve to stamp out all forms of improper waste disposal that result in environmental degradation of the metropolis, calling on residents to patronise only their assigned PSP operators. Read more
The Fidelity Bank Plc says it has disbursed over N2.6 billion to customers as reward for their loyalty in the last four years.
Richard Madiebo, Head, Divisional Retail Banking of Fidelity Bank, made the disclosure while presenting cheques to three beneficiaries of the reward from Kogi on Wednesday at the Lokoja International Market.
Madiebo, who was represented by Mrs Ugonnaya Okoro, Product Manager, Consumer Finance , Fidelity Bank, said about 6,323 out of its over four million customers had so far been rewarded under the Fidelity Savings Loyalty Scheme.
He said the bank valued and appreciated the customers who patronised its services across its business offices and various digital banking channels.
