The Federal Government has concluded designs for the return of toll plazas on Federal roads, Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola has said.
Fashola disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The minister said that, though the government dismantled toll plazas in the past, there was no law abolishing tolls.
“Let me just clarify this impression about toll gates; there is no reason why we cannot toll; there is no reason.
“There was a policy of government to abolish tolls; to dismantle toll plazas but there is no law that prohibits tolls in Nigeria today.
“We expect to return toll plazas; we have concluded their designs; of what they will look like; what material they will be built with; what new considerations must go into them.
Desirous of empowering physically challenged persons in the state and keen on integrating them into the Authority’s vision of a cleaner and livable environment, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has engaged the services of 20 challenged persons as sweepers of pedestrian bridges across the state.
According to the Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Authority had stepped up its drive to rid the state of waste and it had become necessary to engage all stakeholders, including physically challenged persons.
“The cleanliness of the Lagos State is a collective responsibility. We need all hands to be on deck to help us realize our vision of building a cleaner city we all will be proud of. That is why we have decided to engage these special sweepers to play their own part in achieving this”, he said.
Dr. Gbadegesin pointed out that LAWMA had engaged the services of the Read more
Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Arsenal on Monday in a Premier League game which was a poor imitation of some of the past clashes between the clubs.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 58th minute goal, given after VAR review, cancelled out Scott McTominay’s well-struck opener on the stroke of halftime, but it was a game which highlighted the weaknesses of the two teams.
The result leaves United in 10th place with just nine points, their worst start after seven games for 30 years and they have won just one of their last six league games.
Arsenal are in fourth spot on 12 points but their nine-point gap with leaders Liverpool illustrates just how far away they are from being real contenders.
