Open Heavens Devotional: PREVAILING COUNSEL – Saturday 19 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand” (Prov. 19 :21).

READ: Proverbs 19 :20-21

“And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children” (Exo. 2:6). God is simply marvelous and difficult to understand sometimes. Miriam wished that Pharaoh’s daughter never saw her brother because naturally, she would have killed him. But to her great surprise, he found favour before this princess. One lesson from this is that part from Satan, demons, the world, and our flesh, believers have no permanent enemy. Someone can be an agent of Satan today, working against you; by tomorrow, the fellow can begin to work in your favour. Yes, your greatest enemy can become your strongest supporter. Do you know that your enemies are endowed? If they see you as an enemy, they will channel their resources against you. But the day they begin to see you as a friend, God help anyone who wants to stand in your way! They will fight for you even with their lives! So those of you who pray that your human enemies should die, may indeed be losing your greatest supporters!

Some people think that God must have put some wool over the eyes of this Egyptian princess but that wasn’t so. She recognized that Moses was one of the Hebrew boys over whom there was a death sentence from her father. She knew he should die. Her maidens also knew of this sentence and quite possibly agree he should face it. Yet the princess favoured the one that was condemned to die. This simply tells us that in spite of the fury of the oppressor, God can still have His way over any matter if He wants to. Also, for a child of destiny like you, God can always cause the enemy to bend the rules in your favour. It also shows that no matter what the enemy has decided against you, only God’s counsel will be upheld. Hence, proverbs 19 :21 says, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand”. God’s counsel is in His Word, and it prevails over every other counsel. What have the enemies agreed upon concerning you? It shall be disappointed and they shall be frustrated this season in Jesus name. According to Isaiah 46 :10 , God says His counsel will prevail over your life and He will do what He pleases and not what your enemy desires. Yield completely to His will?

PRAYER POINT: Ask God to frustrate every contrary counsel against you, your family, and your local assembly.

Open Heavens Devotional: RETURN! Friday 18 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.” (Job 22:23)

READ: Ruth 1:19-22

There are vital things to know about economy-based famines. Taking unguarded steps during a famine can cause irreversible losses. One period you must be extremely careful, thoughtful and take Spirit-led decisions is during a famine. In Genesis 12:10-17, Abraham experienced a famine. He did not seek God’s face concerning the cause and how to overcome it. He simply applied his sixth sense and decided to relocate to Egypt. That trip could have cost him the mother of his heir—Sarah. He had indeed lost her; it took divine intervention for her to be restored. He could have avoided all the embarrassment. Today, when some people face a famine, they still follow Abraham’s example by relocating to a better city, state, or nation, without consulting God. How do you know where you are going is better? A place may be generally good for the average person, but it may be worst for you. The time to be very meticulous about relocating is when you are experiencing a famine.

Another person who suffered a great loss during a famine was Naomi. In Ruth 1:15, the Israeli nation faced a famine. Instead of consulting with God, Elimelech—Naomi’s husband—did not. He took his wife and two sons and headed for the land of Moab. Yes, he got food there but the years spent in that land were most horrifying! Elimelech soon died. Thereafter, Naomi encouraged her two sons to marry. They did but 10 years later, the sons died. She lost everything she came with whereas most of those she left behind in Judah were alive and well. Her relocation in that famine was like moving from frying pan into fire. When she returned to Israel, those she left could barely recognize her. Yet, because she returned, God still gave her a good end. There are many people who have left their nation’s shores in order to escape some famine and like Naomi, they returned empty. Out of shame, many have continued in such lands. Yet, like Naomi, they need to retrace their steps and the Lord will recognize their latter end. Are you a victim of this? Return to God by accepting Him into your life. Then, prayerfully consider a return. The Lord will order your steps aright. God can cause you to have your financial breakthrough on your return.

To prevent or reduce loss to its barest minimum during a famine, stay with God.

Open Heavens Devotional: REVEALING GOD’S LOVE – Thursday 17 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” (1 John 3:16).

READ: John 15 :9-13

When God wanted to reveal His invisible self to man, He clothed the Word with flesh In the Person of Jesus Christ, and sent Him into the world. Genesis 1 :26-27 talks of the decision to create man which was taken by the Godhead. Why was man created? It is so that there will be someone who can see little of God whenever He came to earth. Some ages past, nothing existed but God. All you see today—sun, moon and stars, planet earth, human beings, etc., once existed only as an essential part of God’s thought. But at some point, He decided to bring to manifestation a portion of it. Although inanimate objects and animals have their ways of relating with their Creator, none of them can understand God. As a result God made man so that at least someone will be able to understand a little of Him.

Another reason for creating man is to reveal Himself in man. God wants you to appreciate His greatness and wants to use you to show the world how great He is. If you look at the life of Jesus Christ, several things about God were revealed. One major aspect of God that Jesus revealed is love. John 15 :13 says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. Until Jesus came, we never knew what true love was all about. God wants you know that there is depth of love that can only be accessed through God. When a fellow human being tell you ‘I love you,’ they may really mean, ‘I need you’, ‘I want something from you’, ‘I want to use you to get to an end’, etc. Man’s love is selfish, self-centered and usually tied to something—a hidden agenda or motive. As for God, however, it is important to know that He has nothing amiss that He needs our love to complete. Before we existed He was God. Before and after expressing your love for God, He remains God. Your love cannot add to or subtract from His essence. God loves you to the extent of dying for you. How many will be ready to die for me? Anyone who says he or she is ready to do so is simply engaged in self deceit. This is why I feel sad for those who peg their security on security guards. Which security guard will love his employer to the extent of dying for him? This accounts for why many of them flee when they come face to face with death. Safety is only from God. Do you have Jesus? Can people around you experience the love of God? If all they see is hatred, wickedness and an unforgiving spirit, it shows you do not truly have Christ or the Spirit of Christ. Can God reveal His love through you?

PRAYER POINT: Father, through my life, let your love shine forth in the midst of hatred, selfishness and wickedness.

Open Heavens Devotional: WHEN IT’S NOT TOO LATE Wednesday 16 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” (Rom. 4:21).

READ: Romans 4 :16-24

God uses His vessels to prove a point. Believe it or not, your personal relationship with God paints a picture of Him to those around you. If you paint a bad picture, people will never want to associate with your God. What kind of picture is your life painting to the world?

In Genesis 26 :12-14 , God used Isaac to prove the infallibility of His law of harvest. Sometimes, God uses a vessel to make everyone know that with Him, all things are possible (Luke 1 : 37). Abraham and Sarah are a case in point. When the former was 75 years old, God promised that He would make him the father of many nations. At this time, his wife was barren at the age of 65. They were already too old to bear children, yet God deliberately waited 25 more years until Abraham was 100 and Sarah 90 before bringing His promise to pass. Has God promised to do something that appears impossible and yet, the promise is still lingering? He may be waiting for all options to run out and possibility in order to prove, through your life, that with Him there is no impossibility.

As long as God is still be involved in your case, it can never be too late. Is it appearing too late in that particular situation? Fear not! The Lord will step right in and ‘too late’ will become ‘ most appropriate time’ in Jesus name. On a trip to America some years ago, one of my daughters—a medical doctor—had an encounter. She was already past child-bearing age, had stopped menstruating, and still trusting God for a husband. She had every reason to resign herself to fate, yet; something within her told her she would have a child. As she asked how this could be, the Lord guided her. She bought a car, met her pastor and pleaded with him that whenever I came around, that the car should be the vehicle that takes me around. Although her pastor had earlier arranged for another car, on seeing her persistence, he obliged her. On my arrival, I was conveyed in her car. After I left, she took the car to the garage, locked herself inside and prayed that the anointing on me that was deposited in that car should destroy her yokes and make her the mother of a child as God had promised. A few weeks later, a brother met her and said, “God said you are my wife” A few months later, they married. A little over a year afterwards, their baby came. The Lord who did it for this sister will turn your situation around in Jesus name. Every power of delay is broken now in Jesus name. Your ‘too late’ situation will soon become ‘right time’ situation in Jesus name. Ask God for what to do to trigger your miracle today!

PRAYER POINT: Like you did in the lives of Abraham and Sarah, use my impossible situation to prove to the world that nothing is truly impossible with you.

Open Heavens Devotional: WHAT’S IN YOUR STOREHOUSE? Tuesday 15 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” (Col. 3:16).

READ: Colossians 3 :15-17

One thing a believer who truly wants to make it to Heaven must never do, is to become his own worst enemy. Proverbs 6 : 27-28 says, “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?” When a man offers a sister a contract, promotion or an opportunity with the intention of sleeping with her; it will be foolishness to accept it. When a church member offers you a gift with the intention of silencing you, controlling your sermons or entering an unholy relationship with you, do not take it. Many victims of such pitfalls saw themselves sliding but did nothing to prevent their fall.

Apart from keeping a distance from sin, another way of identifying a wise fellow is by what is stored up inside him or her. “Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction” (Prov. 10:14). Your heart is a storehouse but you must be careful what is stored inside you. Some people do not care what they take in but you should. Why? Garbage in, garbage out. What you are capable of giving out is a function of what you took in. According to Romans 1 :21-32 , those who do not want to be filled with the knowledge of God will end up being filled with spiritual garbage. The knowledge of God and junk cannot stay in the same place. What are you getting filled with? “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Is. 40:31) . It is the wise one that waits on the Lord. What happens when you wait on him? You begin to lay up knowledge about Him. It is the knowledge you lay up about Him that helps you to mount up. You cannot mount up without increasing in the knowledge of God. Apostle Paul had a good understanding of this, hence he taught us to pray that we “…might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;” (Col. 1:9). He also encourage that we should know the love of Christ to the point of being filled with all of God’s fullness (Eph. 3:19). A wise believer is full of God’s Word (Col. 3 :16). Such a fellow thinks on those things that glorify God. What are you filled with—filth or faith?

KEY POINT: Fill yourself with the Word daily

Open Heavens Devotional: THE WORD AND DISCIPLESHIP Monday 14 March 2011

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” (Heb 5:14).

Read: Hebrews 5:11-14

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). The differences between a child and an elder are numerous, some of which are, experience and knowledge made possible by the period of time available to each of them. For a child to attain the status of an elder, he or she would need to be exposed to what the elders have gone through. In the same way, a young convert will need to be spiritually processed before becoming a disciple. Calling yourself a disciple does not make you one. Self-professing disciple abound but Heaven-recognized disciples are in short supply. Are you a disciple ‘indeed’? In addition, you will differentiate a believer from a disciple by what is fed each. While believers are fed with milk, the solid truths of God’s Word are given to disciples. What Heaven owes disciples is truth while it owes believers (especially new converts) milk. If God cannot feed you with strong meat, you are believer, not a disciple.

“But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Heb. 5:14). Paul’s experience with the Jews was not different; there were more spiritual babes than mature Christians then. Today, there are several pastors, church founders and ministers that are not disciples. Also, there are so many earthly certificated people but very few with God’s approval. If you meet a disciple, he will open his storehouse and show you great truths that came by personal revelations from the Holy Spirit. How many things have the Holy Spirit personally taught you? To what extent do you tarry in God’s presence, just asking Him to give you understanding of Scriptures? If you are not able to go beyond the surface meaning of the Bible, you are yet to be a disciple. In addition to these, according to John 8:32, truth makes free. But this takes a process. That means in order to access your freedom, as you seek God, He will gradually release the key (truth) to you in bits and pieces. You don’t, however, stop on receipt of one silver of truth because there are more if you must obtain your total freedom, breakthrough, and blessing. This tells us straightaway that God is not interested in microwave Christianity. Those who want all the answers from God all-at-a-go, may never go far in Kingdom issues. Are you prepared to seek Him until you find Him?

Ask for grace to be processed by Heaven so that you, as a finished product, can be relevant to earth.

Open Heavens Devotional: UNUSUAL VISIT FROM GOD – Sunday 13 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blesses art thou among women” (Luke 1:28).

READ: Luke 1 :26-32

When every satanic and human design to cut short your fame fails, you will know it is your day of favour. This season, the Lord will frustrate every plan of the enemy to stop your fame. Good news about you will continue to spread until it gets the ears of those who should know of you and assist you into your place of destiny in Jesus name. Another way of recognizing your time of favour is when you receive an unusual divine visitation. One beneficiary of divine visitation was Mary. There is no record that she ever had such a visit before this time. But when her day of favour came, an angel—Heaven’s minister of information—Archangel Gabriel paid her a visit. The way he greeted her was strange and she immediately realized there was something good in store for her. One thing we can learn from this is that the importance of the message determines the messenger to be sent.

In other words, there is a correlation between the message and the messenger. Sometimes, God sends men to deliver messages. Sometimes, He uses angels for important messages. At other times, He sends archangels like Gabriel or Michael to deliver very important messages. Yet, concerning some highly crucial information, God delivers it by Himself. Although all messages from God are important, you need to recognise the level of importance and urgency attached to the message by looking at the messenger used in delivering it. Mary knew she was truly favoured above all women when an archangel was sent to deliver the news of the miraculous conception and delivery of the Creator of the world. Furthermore, during His earthly ministry, the Lord could only visit a few houses personally. During the days of Elijah, of all widows, the Lord sent Elijah to just one in Zarephath. Also, of all lepers in those days, God arrange a special visitation that brought healing to Naaman the captain of the Syrian host. This season, the Lord will organize a divine visitation to you (Luke 4 : 25-27). The Lord will send His angel to you. In that situation you are currently going through, the Lord shall personally visit you and turn things around for your good.

ACTION POINT: When God visits you, there must be a change—either for good or bad. Pray that God’s visit will deliver good to you.

Open Heavens Devotional: HANDLING ENEMIES – Saturday 12 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same?” (Matt. 5:46).

READ: Matthew 5 :43-48

From the story of Moses, we learn that sometimes, the person we would not want to see may really be the one we are waiting for. This season, the Lord will give you pleasant surprises from the camp of your enemy in Jesus name. In addition, we learn that God can cause your helpers to locate you right where you are. Miriam did not move Moses from where he was kept. Help located him where he was. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, help will locate you through your unpleasant situation. Everything meant to hinder your help from reaching you shall be stopped. This season, you shall not lack help anymore! For a user of this devotional, the Lord is releasing your help to locate you in soon. As this is fulfilled in your life, give God praise and testify before His people.

Speaking of helpers, there are different categories of helpers. You need helpers in every facet of life. You need helpers among friends and enemies. You need helpers in your business, finance, academics, ministry, office, etc. In every area you need help, your Heaven-appointed helpers shall meet you in Jesus name. Pharaoh’s Daughter saw the little boat where Moses was kept and sent for it. On opening it the baby wept. God moved him to weep, and in the process he got compassion from the enemy. What you need to do to draw empathy and compassion from your enemies, the Lord will help you to do it at the right time in Jesus name. There is no fixed way for God to do this; God, however, has the strategy over all unfriendly situations. If God says you should go and beg your enemy, do it. If He says that you should pray for the enemy, obey. If He says you should sow seed of kindness into the life or family of your enemy, obey. Just ensure you hear from God and adhere to His strategy for turning around your particular situation. You can find favour from your enemies. To get this, try sowing acts of kindness, good thoughts and mercy into the life of your enemy. Pray earnestly for the eyes of the fellow to be opened to know the Lord. Lead that enemy to Christ. Do not follow the path of vengeance. As you love your enemies, also ensure your ways are right with God.

KEY POINT: If God asks you to follow peace with your enemy, it is not because He cannot destroy the fellow; He just wants to make a helper out of him.

Open Heavens Devotional: MANAGING PROVISIONS Friday 11 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” (Eph. 1:11).

READ: Ephesians 1:11-12

According to 1 Kings 18:17-18, economic famine can be provoked by ignoring God’s Word and through idolatry. Apart from these, mismanagement of God’s provision can trigger a famine too. It is one thing to receive a provision or blessing and another thing to know the purpose of that provision. Provision without a commensurate understanding of its purpose, will definitely lead to mismanagement. God has a purpose for every provision. If you fail to ask Him for adequate direction on how to spend or distribute a particular provision, its purpose may be defeated. Every windfall that God gives to you has a purpose. Do you know that if you can apprehend the purpose for every provision and you use it accordingly, you may never experience famine? It may surprise you to know that many situations of lack, dryness, and wilderness that many believers go through, are self-inflicted and avoidable. If God sends a provision to last one month but you exhaust it in one week, be prepared to go through dry three weeks! If you spend your income on frivolities, there is no way you will not go through a period of lack.

“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil” (Matt. 4:1). Sometimes, God allows you to face a famine during your wilderness experience. Sometimes, our desire to go to great heights in God’s service can trigger this famine. At other times, it is because God wants to test the quality of our faith and devotion to Him. It is easy to serve God when everything is provided and needs are met. Yes, you will say, ‘God is good’ because He is blessing you from every corner. But when He allows all your blessings to go in one day like Job, will you still say, ‘God is good?’ Won’t you rather challenge or question His love? If you are a minister, and your wife is pregnant and there is no money for food, no money to transport the family to church, and no money for offering, will you still love God? Yet, everyone who is genuinely born again might have to go through such tests to show their love for God. When you have to undergo your trial, may you not fail God.

Father, from today, let Heaven‘s expectations concerning managing my provisions be met. Keep me from self-inflicted famines.

Open Heavens Devotional: JESUS REVEALS THE GODHEAD – Thursday 10 March 2011 #RCCG

By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Col. 2:9)

READ: John 14:8-9

Everyone has a worthy destiny, but not everyone attains that destiny. Although most individuals have set their personal goals, God has a better destiny for each one. Arriving at your personal goal is good but getting to your divinely set destiny is far better. May you not miss Heaven’s destination for your life in Jesus name. Destiny has a link with time. It also has a link with light. When light comes on an individual’s destiny, the fellow’s potential will come to the limelight.

“Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen” (1 Tim. 1:17). Just as we need light to reveal our destiny, so also does God embrace light in order to be seen. God is the Almighty who is good, kind, rich, generous, yet, invisible. In spite of His invisibility, He wants to be seen. Romans 1:20 says, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”. Though invisible, God reveals Himself through the works of His hands. It is in this course, that the Word became flesh (John 1:1 and 14). The Word is invisible but because God wanted to be seen, He wrapped the Word in flesh so that we can behold His glory. No wonder Colossians 1:15 calls Jesus ‘the image of the Invisible God’.

One way of appreciating this fact is by looking at the rich. Do you know that rich people who want to express their financial status often face frustration? How? It is not possible to write on their foreheads: ‘Here comes rich man’. So, when he gets to a place, there may really be nothing to differentiate him from the poor. Hence, he invests in expensive wears, shoes, wristwatches, cars, etc. It is not uncommon for the one who is full of goodness to show off a little. When I told someone I would be coming to his house for lunch on a particular day, he begged me to defer it till the following month. It simply shows he lacked what to host me with. He wanted enough time to plan the visit so that he could ‘spoil’ me a little. The almighty God is full of goodness and wants to show it; hence, He sent Jesus Christ. According to Colossians 2:9, the Trinity pooled themselves together in a fleshy envelop called Jesus of Nazareth, so that men could see God. Do you have Jesus? Is He seen in and through your life and deeds?

Father, in my life and in that of members of my family, let Jesus be revealed.
