New Glory Devotional: THE TEMPLE OF GOD – Wednesday, October 31, 2012

By Pastor Ayodeji Agbelusi

Memorise: “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” (1 Corinthians 3:17).

Read: 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

The temple is a reserved place for worship, prayer and praise to the Almighty. It is therefore a rare and unique privilege to be called the temple of God as a believer in Christ. God dwells in His temple. He lives in the praises of His people. He hears His own from His temple. This connote that God resides in you, lives within you and ultimately praised through you continually. Halleluyah!

Your spirit, soul and body are very unique to God. You must therefore be careful of what you do with your temple. The activities within your temple will determine whether God is there or He has been chased out. God desires fellowship with man but the decision to retain His awesomeness is all yours.

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19).

You cannot misuse your body if you know it belongs to the Lord. The body is not only for earthly work, sin and corruption. It’s for God to dwell. If the Lord dwells truly in you, your life can never remain the same. In fact, if you are truly His temple as He desires, you will become a celebrity and never a pity on the earth.

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” (Romans 8:11).

What is going on in your temple? Can you boldly say God is there? Is your body not the habitation of sin and iniquity? Have you not sold your temple unto immorality and worldly pleasures? Some have so changed their temple that God even finds it difficult recognising it. It’s never of any advantage to make the place of God’s worship a den of lions or the cave of harlots. You need to search within yourself the reality of God’s presence in your life. If God lives in you fine but if not, you have endangered your life here on earth and the possibility of a place of abode in heaven after the close of the age.

“If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” (1 Corinthians 3:17).

What are you doing with your temple? It’s either your temple is clean and holy through the word of God and prayers or it’s corrupted through worldly activities and evil communication. You need to check at every moment if God lives in you or not. Some are even possessed with devils without knowing. Some temple habour sin and iniquity and through this are listed for everlasting destruction. Some use their temple for gossip and all other evil works. If God dwells not in your temple you are not His own. Reject worldly activities today and allow God to reign and be worshipped through you.

PRAYER:

Father, come into me and make my body your eternal sanctuary. Wash me and make me clean from all dirtiness of the flesh that corrupt and war against the soul.
