New Glory Devotional: JOYFUL? – Saturday, October 27, 2012

By Pastor Ayodeji Agbelusi

Memorise: “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” (1 Peter 1:8).

Read: Galatians 5:22-23

The only source of joy for anyone on earth is the Holy Spirit. Gal.5:22. You can be joyful, happy, sad or sorrowful. As a believer in Christ Jesus, God’s wish and promise for you is joy unspeakable full of glory. You are not expected to experience mere earthly excitation. You are expected to emanate the Joy of the Lord every single day of your life. God wants you to rejoice eternally through Christ.

The circumstances of life can push you to heights you least imagine. You can be tossed to and fro as if there’s no hope for a better tomorrow. Issues of life may crowd your heart to a level that you begin to doubt the ability of God to sustain and deliver you. I have good news for you. There’s a friend in Jesus who turns situations around and restores hope to the hopeless. He gives help to the helpless, healing to the sick and life to the one called dead. Your story will soon change and your sorrow will be turned into joy and endless celebration.

Salvation is not the end of the journey. It’s just the start up call into the race to eternal bliss with God through Christ our Lord. You have a lot to do to harvest your kingdom heritage in Christ. One of such roles you must play is daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit. He’s the Spirit of truth and the only known comforter of them that come to God. You can never know the joy of the Lord unless you are baptised genuinely into a daily fellowship with the Spirit of God.

I know you have tried several options to stay joyful on earth but it appears they are not working. Sincerely speaking, those options won’t work. The more you try as a man the worse it becomes. The truth of the matter is this, nothing earthly can take the place of spiritual virtues. If God is the source, no other channel can ever produce same effect. Forget pretence and camouflage, you are either joyful through the doings of God in your life, or merely happy as a result of a few happenings in life that you witness.

No matter what we own, where we go, or what we do, nothing can give us true gratification but the presence of God. Money, trips, vacations, houses, furniture, clothes, open doors of opportunity, marriage, children, seeking divorce, running abroad without considering help that comes from above and many other blessings and events are all things that can certainly excite us and give us a degree of happiness for a period of time. All these will only create a temporary atmosphere of happiness which will eventually fade while joy is based on an internal assurance independent of outward circumstances. I can assure you, the issues of life will discourage you except you are truly filled with Holy Spirit. Your destiny won’t witness any satisfaction except God remains your source.

Your role in contacting this eternal joy of the Lord is not farfetched. Get into a sincere relationship with God, stay committed in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Feed your soul with the right words and reject the options of sin and wickedness. God will restore joy into your heart, marriage and pursuits. Don’t stay excited because of the things of this world; rather get connected to the source of joy through the Holy Spirit. You will rejoice for evermore. Amen

Key Point:

Whatsoever the world offers will produce momentary happiness. True joy is released from the presence of God through the Holy Spirit. Get His spirit connection and stay joyful for evermore.
