New Glory Devotional: SON OR SERVANT? – Friday, October 19, 2012

By Pastor Ayo Agbelusi

Memorise: “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;” (Galatians 4:1).

Read: Galatians 4:1-5

It’s the joy of every parent to see their child develop through the stages of life. The growth of a child is a journey and it’s a gradual process producing great result. Any child with stunted growth produces worries to the parents and automatically becomes the concern of all family members. When you are born of God, you are either growing in grace, stagnant or stunted. God’s expectation of you is your daily growth to sonship so that you will be able to access the hidden treasures of His Kingdom.

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (1 Peter 2:2).

Milk is the most required meal for every infant. If you will grow out of infancy and stay strong, you must desire the word of the Lord sincerely. We have so many Christians out there who are no different from unbelievers because they haven’t been rooted in the word of the Lord. If you don’t feed on His word, you will not qualify for higher heights in the kingdom and will be prone to unlimited temptations and diverse attacks of the devil.

“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;” (Ephesians 4:14).

A baby knows not how to go. He or she cannot think or make decisions by himself or herself and thus is led to everything in life. So are you when you refuse to grow and remain at a single position. Since you don’t, through the scriptures, know where and how to go, your future becomes uncertain and you end up following or copying the destinies of other people or are led astray by suggestions from others. Many have been misled into error and regrets in life while some destinies were totally destroyed due to immaturity and lack of purposeful living.

One other evil of stagnancy or stunted growth is that it disqualifies you from your God ordained height on earth. There isn’t much you do can as a child. No one can commit great projects into your hands until you mature into sonship. There’s a level of divine blessing you can never reach until you begin to feed daily on His word and also get committed to prayers and kingdom service.

“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.” (1 Corinthians 3:1-2).

You are nothing different from a servant if you can’t access the secret places of your Father. The decision to move up is your sole responsibility. No one can get maturity for you. You need to pay the price to get the prize. What are you doing with growing in grace? Most Christians are just patching it. Stop being a baby. You have been spoon-fed enough. “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;” (Ephesians 4:14). Beloved, you need to move up and take your place as a bona fide son of God. The decision is yours!

Action Point:

You can’t keep watching and waiting. Sonship won’t jump on you. It’s not a title. You must pay the price to attain it.
