New Glory Devotional: REDEEMING THE TIME – Friday, October 12, 2012

By Pastor Ayo Agbelusi

Memorise: “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16).

Read: Ephesians 5:15-16

The greatest asset of man on the earth is time. Your time spent is equal to your life spent. In other words, time is life as the saying goes. Each second, minute and hour that has passed draws you closer to the result of your assignment. If you cannot tie up your assignment properly within the specified time, you would end up a waste in place of fruitfulness.

Therefore, it is expedient that you begin to maximise every moment of your life for profit and progress in destiny.

The Psalmist says: “teach us to number our days…” Psalm. 90:12. Every wise hearted believer will take this scripture very seriously. Anything that engages your time is directly or indirectly engaging your life. It’s either your time is positively utilised towards the actualisation of your desired goal or wasted on frivolous and unprofitable adventure. Look back and see, this year is far spent and another “happy new year” is already fast approaching. What have you done with your time this year? Every moment of our life is golden. There’s a blessing and opportunity attached to every time you spend on earth.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Until you learn to avoid time wasters on your assignment, work, business and ministry, you will never attain greatness on the earth. Your greatest time waster is procrastination. This is your chief enemy. It’s the enemy within and a younger brother to laziness. There are some friends you keep that have nothing to add but to subtract. These friends abound in your classroom, study arena, workplace, ministry and marriage. They affect you negatively and will never allow you to fulfil God’s mandate per time.

You do not need motivation from anybody my brother and sister. This message is coming so that you will encourage yourself and start looking inwardly at what you should have appropriated with a wise use of your time. It’s never late. You can still be what God wants you to be and achieve what you were meant to achieve in these few remaining months of the year. Instead of wasting away due to reckless use of your time, start redeeming it. To Redeem is to buy back, to recover lost time. What have you lost to careless use of your time? You can gain it back! You can still pass that examination and move on with your education! Regardless of your age, you can still be a soul winner, a life helper and a destiny changer.

Maybe you have wasted the best of your youthful time in immorality due to peer pressure and it appears there’s no future for you maritally, listen to me, you can recover those wasted years through grace. This message is to bring you back to the initial counsel of God for your destiny. You must desire a change in your attitude to time. There’s provision for you in the redemption. All you need right away is to redeem the time remaining and ensure you spend them judiciously towards achieving your desired goal in life.

What steps are you taking towards the time you have wasted in Satan’s kingdom? Wisdom demands that you use the remaining years of your life to witness to souls, support evangelism and missions, give to the poor and be a blessing to your immediate generation. Take a good position at a time like this to recover your lost ground. The Lord will help and be gracious unto you. Shalom!

Father Lord, I receive sufficient grace to recover all the time I have lost to frivolous living.

  1. knowing fully well that time lost may never be regained, we must make a concious effort never to waste our time again after repenting. And tis is only possible if we allow the master JESUS, who used only three years to change the world history to be our companion.
