Open Heavens Devotional: LOSING DESTINY? Thursday 3 February 2011

by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

MEMORIZE: “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Cor. 6: 20).

READ: Luke 22 :31-33

God is the greatest playwright. Unlike human playwrights, His scripts are so all-embracing that one way or another, every human being finds himself or herself fitting into one of the roles or characters. However, one interesting thing about this drama is that God can make changes right on stage. He can change the actor, scene or plot at will. For instance, Psalm 41 :9 prophesied that a bosom friend of the Lord would betray Him. When the time came for that drama to be enacted, and Satan determined to use Peter as the betrayer, the Lord simply referred the matter to the Playwright and it was changed. In any way you were supposed to act a negative part in God’s drama, the Lord will reverse that role in your favour in Jesus name.

“Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed” (1 Sam. 2 :30). In this particular drama, God had assigned Eli and his family to play the role of priests throughout their generations but something went wrong and God changed His mind. Every promise of God has its accompanying conditions. It is foolhardy to violate them and still expect God to fulfil the original promise. Have you lived contrary to God’s command or expectations? Don’t assume you are retained to play your former lead role; it may have changed. Go back to God to find out if you are still relevant. Eli, his sons and their generations once earned a good destiny due to Eli’s past record of faithful service. But lost that glorious destiny and was not given another one. You can either earn or lose a destiny through your deeds. The greatest destiny anyone can have is to fit like a jigsaw puzzle into the Maker’s plan for his or her life. Today, like Eli many have lost their destinies. Have you lost your destiny? Are you retained to play the original role God assigned to you? Go to God and find out. If you have lost it, seek God in repentance, prayer and fasting.

ACTION POINT: To maintain your original role in God’s big play, cooperate with Him completely.
