Dec 8, 2015 – It is no longer news that the Federal Executive Council, the highest executive decision making organ of the Federal Government of Nigeria has now been inaugurated.

That happened on Wednesday the 11th November, 2015 which is 28 days ago.

It is also no longer news that 3 (Three) Ministries or areas of critical public service of Power, Works and Housing have been merged into 1 (One) under the superintending authority of myself as substantive Minister and Mustapha Baba Shehuri (Honourable Minister of State)with 2 (Two) new Permanent Secretaries, Engr. Abubabar Magaji, redeployed from the Ministry of Interior to Works and Housing; and Mr. Louis Edozien from the private sector to assist us.

Since our inauguration we have spent the last few days, getting to know ourselves and our officers, assessing the status of works done in all Ministries, meeting with some of our parastatals and corporations; (which is still on-ongoing) and generally trying to understand where things stand, where the problems are, what can be solved, what cannot be solved, what must continue and what must be altered.

At this point I must express our gratitude to all the Directors, Assistant Directors and their entire staff, not only for the warm reception thus far, but also for their time and the information they have shared with us thus far.

While our work of assessment, and detailed planning and development of workable solutions is an ongoing one that will take some time, we have considered it expedient to make this briefing for the purpose of setting the agenda, owned clarifying emerging issues.

The Agenda
We are not unmindful of the huge expectations of the Nigerian public who voted for the All Progressive Congress message of CHANGE and elected President Muhammed Buhari to office.

This was stated at the Fireside Chat held by iDea Nigeria, a Lagos-based incubator and accelerator for techpreneurs in Nigeria on Friday October 23rd 2015.

Obi Ejimofo, Managing Director of real-estate marketplace Lamudi.com.ng, opined that the only way to build trust is through consistency. The challenge is to continue to innovate.  “At Lamudi we are constantly evaluating ourselves to improve the quality of our agents, our response time, customer feedback and so on. As a result we came up with Dial4Home, a hotline which enables people speak directly to an operator who will guide them through their property search and more recently the mortgage calculator which calculates the mortgage cost on each property for sale on the Lamudi platform.” Read more

President Buhari remains fully committed to improved national security and succour for IDPS

PRESS RELEASE

Contrary to the erroneous impression that may have been created by reports that the Nigerian delegation to the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly missed a meeting on help for displaced persons, President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration remain fully committed to the rehabilitation and well-being of all persons who have been displaced or adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Pres Buhari at UN 25th September 2015

Indeed, the war against terrorism, improved security across Nigeria and additional measures to give succour to internally displaced persons have been central to discussions President Buhari has had with other world leaders since his arrival in New York on Thursday night.

The issues were dominant in the President’s conversations on Friday with Chancellor Angela Merkel, the King of Spain, His Majesty Don Felipe VI and former Prime-minister Gordon Brown who came with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to discuss the actualization of the safe schools initiative, which is of special interest in parts of Nigeria most vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

President Buhari is handling his duty as leader of the Nigerian delegation to this year’s General Assembly with the greatest possible diligence and will certainly not tolerate any tardiness on the part of the delegation in seizing every possible. opportunity to advance Nigeria’s interests.

This notwithstanding, it must be realized that it will be near impossible for any national delegation, no matter its size, to participate in all the meetings that are simultaneously happening in and around the General Assembly in New York. Read more

Nigeria’s Paschal Dike nominated for Junior Chamber International World President

pascalSince JCI became an international organization in 1946, it has produced till date 70 World Presidents from about 36 countries. JCI started in Nigeria in 1957 making it a 58 year old organization in Nigeria. No Nigerian has ever been elected as President of this International Organization for these numbers of years.

A look at the JCI Website www.jci.cc indicates it is a truly international organization but with local and national impacts. JCI has partnerships with such reputable international organizations as; International Chamber of Commerce – World Chamber Federation (ICC-WCF), United Nations Foundation Nothing But Nets Campaign, UN Millennium Campaign, United Nations and the UN Development Goals, United Nations Global Compact, Pan American Health Organization, UNESCO and runs joint projects with these and other partners. JCI in their member countries also have similar partnerships with a number of other organizations.

JCI is a one year to lead organization. That means for every office you hold, you hold for only one year. There is no such thing as second tenure and this is an example of what selfless service should be.

The JCI Presidency is one that every member country aspires to experience and exercise. The holder of such office works with a team to continue to advance the mission of JCI but very importantly, he is an Ambassador of his country to the world. He is a role model to the young people of his country and the world as he will travel around the world to motivate, inspire and challenge members and young people to take more actions to better themselves and better their communities. He will oversee JCI’s work for a better and peaceful world by making better leaders, better innovative entrepreneurs, better citizens, people who carry out various projects to address community challenges.  It is therefore a great pride to the country, its Government and its youths as the individual becomes a true example of a Nigerian Citizen in the eyes of the world.

It is true that no Nigerian has ever been elected JCI President, but the good news is that there is a golden opportunity to change that.

Junior Chamber International in Nigeria has nominated one of her own Paschal Dike as candidate for 2016 JCI World President during the JCI World Congress which will hold in the city of Kanazawa, Japan from November 3-8, 2015. Read more

Addressing leading French businessmen and investors at the headquarters of the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF), President Buhari also reaffirmed his government’s determination to curb corruption in Nigeria.

“With a blessed land, rich in agricultural and mineral resources, skilled and low-cost labour, large market, a robust and competitive private sector anchored on investment policies and legislation to guarantee predictability and consistency with global business practices, we are poised for double digit growth.

“There is much more to our country than oil and we?are determined to consolidate on industrializing Nigeria and diversifying its economy.

“The privatisation of key sectors of our economy, which was started under previous administrations, will be pursued and expanded to include other sectors. This exercise will be conducted in an open, transparent and competitive manner.

“We recognize the private sector as the engine of growth and a veritable partner in our economic agenda, and will therefore give the fullest possible support to foreign and domestic entrepreneurs.

“Our administration is poised to redress the serious infrastructural gaps in Nigeria, raise production to create more jobs, build capital and stimulate further growth and prosperity of the country,” President Buhari told the?entrepreneurs.
