Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. To further include young people, last year, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2250 recognizing the role youth have to play in peace building and encouraging young governments to engage young people at all levels of peace building. Following the success of last our International Peace Day in partnership with UNIC, we hope to make this year even bigger and more impactful.
This year, the United Nations Association of Nigeria in partnership with the United Nations Information Center and University of Lagos, Akoka (Department of International Law and Jurisprudence) will host a symposium on the United Nations International Peace Day theme: “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety, and Dignity for All.”
The Mainland Teens/Youth Leadership & Career Conference is designed to help children & young people develop new attitudes, behaviours & choices.
Organised by A Fresh Start Initiative and Dayo Israel Intl in partnership with GLEEHD Foundation, Yaba Youth Congress, Able Abel Initiative and the Lagos State Youth Council
During the conference, over 1000 young Mainlanders will meet to sharpen their leadership skills to tackle global issues. An ideal opportunity for young leaders who wish to face challenges that will push their abilities to the next level. The conference will challenge the young participants to be influencers in their faith based institutions, schools, and communities.

The Federal Ministry of Finance says N375.8 million has been paid to 20 providers of information under the Whistleblower Policy.
The Director of Information, Mr Salisu Dambatta in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said that payment was related to the recovery of N11.6 billion.
Dambatta explained that the payment was only for recovered assets that had been declared free of legal disputes or litigation by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
He said that in addition, taxes have been removed before final payments to beneficiaries.
“This payment, which is the first under the Whistleblower Policy, underscores the commitment of the President Muhmmadu Buhari-led administration in meeting obligations to information providers under the Whistleblower Policy.

The Lagos State Government has commenced implementation of the Executive Order ratified by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on December 16, 2016 which established the Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
The Executive Order highlights the importance and priority which the State Government placed towards protecting the lives of children and it applies to all State Government organisations, all schools, child centred institutions, orphanages and child related institutions located in the State, both public and private.
Speaking during the annual general meeting and intervention programme put together by the Office of Education Quality Assurance which was attended by over 1,000 participants, Coordinator of Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), an agency under the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi said the State Government was determined to implement the Executive Order to ensure the protection of children. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his Kebbi State counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu on Wednesday launched the much anticipated Lagos-Kebbi Rice christened LAKE RICE, saying that the partnership which culminated into the launch was not only designed to ensure food security but showcase the ability of Nigeria to become a producing nation.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held at Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the development was a great and historic moment for both states and Nigeria, as the rice would not only be sold at highly reduced price, compared to what obtains in the market, but is also very fresh and safe for consumption.
“Today is an historic day for Lagos and Kebbi States. In March 2016, we signed an MOU with an understanding that we, being proudly Nigeria, we want to come out with what is made in Nigeria and what is good in Nigeria. We took all that President Muhammadu Buhari said that we need to grow our food and we decided that we will prove a point and that is what today is all about.
“LAKE RICE is of good quality. The major difference between LAKE RICE and the ones imported is that the imported has a minimum storage of five to six years storage life span, but LAKE RICE is fresh,” the Governor said. Read more
